You may know some (maybe all), but prior to posting, I was not aware of a good number of these facts; but, the major thing here is to somehow share the enthusiasm I specially have for this marvellous experience.

Sean Connery

Sean Connery turned down the role of Gandalf, because he had never read the books and “didn’t understand the script;” even though he was offered up to 15% of the film’s total box office receipts, which would have been about $400 million (more than any other actor has ever been paid for a single role).

J. R. R. Tolkien (author of the book) typed all 1,200 pages of The Lord of the Rings with two fingers.

Christopher Lee as Saruman

Sean Astin's character, Samwise Gamgee’s daughter in The Return of the King is played by his real-life daughter, Alexandra.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf’s standoff scene with the Balrog, was actually Ian McKellen acting to a ping pong ball.

Christopher Lee, the actor who plays Saruman, is the only cast member to have met Tolkien, whom he met him by chance at a bar in Oxford.

Tolkien believed Sam was the “chief hero” of the story, (him and everyone else who saw the movie!)

Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood never actually filmed a scene together in person.

Andy Serkis said he based Gollum’s desperation and cravings on the withdrawal of heroin addicts.

In The Two Towers, The Battle of Helm’s Deep (The Battle of the Hornburg) took four months to shoot, all of it at night.

The Return of the King holds the record for highest movie body count, tallying in at 836 (excluding animals).

Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) bonded with the two horses that he rode in Lord of the Rings, so he purchased them from their owner.

The length of time from when Frodo first gets the ring to when he actually sets out on his adventure is 17 years, not a few weeks like the movie makes it seem.

Daniel Day-Lewis turned down the role of Aragorn.

It is estimated that filming of the trilogy pumped about $200,000,000 into the New Zealand economy. The New Zealand government even created a Minister for Lord of the Rings.

Viggo Mortensen’s son, Henry appeared in the movie, as the first orc that Aragorn kills at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields in ‘The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’ was played by Mortensen Jr.

always something unique and brilliant about Studio Ghibli films - the story. It
has this Je ne sais quoi feel to it, which you just can't get
enough of. The Wind Rises is loosely based on Japanese Aeronautic Engineer,
Jiro Horikoshi's life as a designer of air planes during World War 2. The
story, though fictionalised, takes us through Jiro's life as a designer of
planes and his inspirations - the 'shared dream' with Italian aeronautical
engineer Giovanni Caproni was quite captivating. Also the placement of
historical events such as the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the Great
Depression, the Tuberculosis Epidemic and World War 2 were subtle. The depiction
of the Kanto earthquake (which was devastating) sneaks up on you and the aftershocks,
terrifying.
Wind Rises is a beautiful film in the most literal manner. Caproni's 'shared
dreams' with Jiro displayed some beautiful designs of air planes (yes,
beautiful, maybe not feasible), adding a touch of fantasy (that is all too
familiar with Miyazaki’s films). The depictions of various locations helped set
the tone of the film; a personal favourite was the gloomy (and somewhat foggy)
Nazi Germany.
all the beautiful designs and captivating scenes, it was the characters that
brought the film to its masterpiece level; from Jiro’s rise as a brilliant
engineer, to Honjo's realistic views of how things were, to Jiro's romance with
Nahoko - which you always knew was going to give you a heartache, the
mysterious German, Castorp and the ever colourful Kurokawa. These characters were
in perfect synchronisation, something that’s nearly impossible in live-action

The sadness you feel at the end of the film can be likened to the news that Hayao Miyazaki will no longer be making films. I must say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to, perhaps, the greatest animator since Walt Disney.
The Expendables is based on a simple premise; bring together a bunch of old tough guys (some of whom have amassed an impressive amount of action movie cred), with a script filled with humour and good old-school action - you know, blowing up stuff, wicked gun fights and awesome hand to hand combat that makes all feel nostalgic of the '80s & '90s action films. And it worked for the first two, the third ... not so much.
The Expendables 3 started out exciting, the rescue scene in the beginning fell short of the first two (my favourite is the first - the rescue mission against the Somali pirates); the train scene was not as intense as the first two, but in it was a sweet and lovely surprise ... Wesley Snipes! I knew he was going to be in it, and I was excited from the get go. And the tax evasion bit ... GOLD!
Then, things started getting wobbly story-wise; till Mel Gibson came on board. I've got to say, Mel as a bad guy wasn't what I was expecting, till I saw his facial expressions and that dude had crazy (explicit) written all over it. He played it very well, though not as good as Van Damme in Part 2. Still, he was (in all fairness) okay. The major problem with this movie is the story; something was off. I think Sylvester Stallone (he also co-wrote the screenplay) got too emotional with the story and delved a little too much into character development, something the franchise is not associated with. His character, Barney Ross, leaving his old team cause of guilt (or something else I can't figure out) over what happened to Halle Caesar (Terry Crews) and then assembling a new team of nobodys (yes, Kellan Lutz is a nobody when you're talking about The 'freaking' Expendables) and going off after the nastiest bad guy he's ever faced. That was a let down.

Other than Wesley Snipes, another lovely surprise was Antonio Banderas. Oh, I loved his character, Galgo, very much. He was fun to watch throughout; even in the midst of the never-ending fight scene/mini-war, his little quips were a delight.
In all, The Expendables 3 is just average. It could have been better, if they had stuck to the theme of the first two and not tried to include so many unnecessary emotional twists. It could have been, what most classic action films of old were about; something the first two were centred upon - Revenge.
There are very few directors out there who have what it takes to make big budget movies that viewers love irrespective of what critics have got to say. And there are even fewer, who do so consistently. This is the best description you can give Michael Bay – he doesn’t care about the opinions of critics, rather he makes movies that people are willing to pay IMAX/3D prices for. He has been the man behind the camera in all 4 Transformers films, both Bad Boys films and Pearl Harbour, amongst others.
development was never an expectation for a movie of this genre – Monsters vs.
Monsters; if you want that I suggest you watch a mid-western American drama
like August: Osange County (2013). For a movie about literally the king of
monsters saving Western U.S.A. from desolation, the only character you need to
worry about is the KING! One good reminder here is that human influence is
almost irrelevant, because these guys (monsters) are definitely playing in a
much different league; it’s not to be compared to <span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-fareast-font-family: Calibri; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;"><span style="color: windowtext; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none;">Pacific Rim<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">.
be!
notable scene is the halo jump scene, which was pretty awesome (a bit similar
to the 2009 reboot of the Star Trek franchise). But the most notable, is that moment
where Godzilla wakes up and walks back to the sea, those few seconds sum it up
– He is the King of Monsters.
Dr. Eve Saks: None of those drugs have been approved by the FDA.
Ron Woodroof: Screw the FDA. I'm gonna be DOA.

Matthew McConaughey has sure come a long way in his career; 10 years ago he was that toned guy that only acted romantic comedies, with one or two action movies on the side; now he's switched to roles that's gradually propelling him into acting icon. Yes, I said it ... Icon. The buzz around Dallas Buyers Club (DBC) was Jared Leto playing a transgender woman, and when you're done with DBC, you would understand why between McConaughey and Leto, they have won nearly 50 accolades.

DBC's based on the true life story of Ron Woodroof, a moustashioed electrician, cowboy, homophobe, druggie and AIDS patient, whose struggles with his discovery of the disease leads him onto a path of smuggling, with some quite brilliant schemes in the mix, to street saviour for AIDS patients - as the pharmaceutical companies and hospitals seem to be less efficient in administering the right drug. Woodroof's take on tackling the disease, from becoming a smuggler clad in priest robes to forming an exclusive club for AIDS patients is raw, because for starters he knows what each of his clients/potential clients feels, and he won't let bureaucratic goons - cue in the Food Drug Administration - get in his way. Thus, a man given 30 days to live rather turned things around, by bending the rules, and added an extra 7 years to his life expectancy.

Denis O'Hare as Dr Sevard

The plot for DBC is quite powerful, we see bonds form between doctor and patient, friendships that transcends sexual orientation (because what does it matter when survival is involved); and most importantly, one man's personal growth from rough tough cowboy - cum - international drug (AIDS medication) smuggler to a man (leading a minority of mostly society's ostracised) who's fighting two difficult battles, against AIDS and the FDA. Both of which are seemingly impossible for him to overcome ... though he fought with everything he had.

Woodroof did not achieve this on his own, he had an amazing set of co-conspirators and villains on his side to make the story worth every minute of viewing. From Jared Leto's Oscar worthy performance of Rayon, a transgender HIV positive patient, later colleague and friend of McConaughey's Woodroof; a performance that let's you question Leto's gender and introduces a softer side of Woodroof's somewhat rugged persona. Jennifer Garner's character - Dr. Eve Saks brings out the most delighting quality of Woodroof (in my opinion) ... that cowboy swagger. McConaughey's take of Woodroof's romantic side is somewhat amusing yet ballsy, as he owns his really emaciated appearance, and seizes the day.

The villains in Denis O'Hare's Dr Sevard and Michael O'Neill's FDA goon Richard Barkley really complimented the plot, as their efforts to bring down Woodroof apparently made him more human in the eyes of this viewer and his fellow HIV/AIDS infected compatriots, that causes him to emerge at the very end of the movie a hero. A memorable scene can be seen at the court, where a somewhat defeated Woodroof is seen begging for his right to survival.

Touching.
