Day #23
Winter's Bone
Jennifer Lawrence's (Mystique in X-Men: First Class) performance is outstanding in this thrilling piece revolving around rural poverty and Crystal Meth in the Ozarks. With a stellar cast and a riveting story; Winter's Bone explores power (in the Ozarks - a mountainous region cutting across central United States), self-sufficiency, distant family ties and the power and speed of gossip perfectly blended in this goth thriller.
Lawrence's performance as Ree is powerful, bringing hope into a dark captive story, and John Hawkes portrayal as Teardrop is absolutely fantastic. this superb movie also owes a lot to its director, Debra Granik for delivering a stirring movie and putting together an amazing cast.
This 2010 indie hit won the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic Film and Best Screenplay Award at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival; and received four Academy Award nominations (including Best Actress and Best Picture).
