Movie #81 - Atonement

Briony Taliis aged 13: Yes. I saw him.

Day #79

Atonement

For the first part of this film (at the Tallis estate), felt like I was reading the book with the balance and frame; but as soon as Robbie's arrested and goes off to war, you begin to experience the movie on a cinematic level. And what causes for its inclusion in the project is the story -- because its engages your interest then later squash any inkling of hope you may have -- told in a brilliant and technical manner.

The performances from James McAvoy, Keira Knightly (in one of her best performances ever) and Saoirse Ronan - as the 13 yr old Briony Tallis (nominated for an Academy Award) were terrific, coupled with director, Joe Wright, brilliant portrayal of the effects of war without veering off-script. The tracking shot of the wrecked beach at Dunkirk is epic! Also, the cinematography was breathtaking and the score ... Amazing! - which won the movie's only Academy Award despite receiving six nominations.

This 2007 hit is visually rich and thought provoking romance story that deserves "Great" status.
