Day #5, Movie #5?

Cold Mountain
I definitely choose this movie for so many reasons (wonderful story, great cast, brilliant director, epic score/soundtrack), but the most astonishing for me would be the fact that the writer and director, the late Anthony Minghella and the lead actor Jude Law are English, and the lead actress is Australian. And these group brought about a movie that was centered upon the American Civil War, including Renée Zellweger's performance was awesome (FYI - she won an Oscar for the role).

I definitely choose this 2003 hit for its "great" factor.

  1. Hollywood made me cry again with Cold Mountain and yes, it was a brilliant film in all the areas that you mentioned. I especially like your thoughts on how foreigners came and made the American Civil War film! When it comes to film, I look at every aspect of what I’m experiencing. I am especially interested in the score as I am a composer and a writer so music is essential. When I was little, I had too favorite pastimes, which included watching films and banging around on the piano. This sounds rude, and it was but it developed into what has become a romance with music. I feel the same way about movies and I decided a few years back to throw my passion out there into the world and see how others felt. I developed a film blog which started out somewhat basic but took a radical turn when my job sent me flying away all the time. I couldn’t stand listening to the business class talking about how stressful flying all the time was and work was their lives. This couldn’t be me as I was far more creative then this and designed to do more then play psychologist. This all started with a relocation to another part of the country to help my Mom with her Mom’s failing health. When I first relocated, it seemed like a good time to reassess certain aspects of my life especially with the economy we were and are in right now. As far as entertainment providers, I knew I would need satellite because of the options available. Due to my joy of film and writing, I require a service that provides me with the necessary options for my needs. It was a bit shocking that Direct TV requires an online rebate application to get new customer promotions, which take 6-8 weeks. There are no extras for the basic package if that is all I can afford. Meaning no free HD for life, or an upgrade to a DVR should I need one. Nor would I receive premium movie channels once I am a customer as I found with Dish Network once a customer. This is not an option due to what I am looking for. Dish offers far more programming and movie channels for far less money plus a free Sling Adapter free through a rebate to qualifying new and existing customers, which fits me as I travel a lot and need to bring my services with me. I ended up changing jobs and started working for Dish Network, I am still traveling a lot but I have what I need now. More recently, I became aware that as of October the Blockbuster Movie Pass was launched. Hello Live Streaming! For someone like me who travels more now and needs specific access this comparison is blatantly obvious to me. Looking at my options is a gift from my Dad, how thankful I am that he gave me a broader perspective that I can utilize throughout my creativity. I research on every trip now enjoying it and feeling a passion that was not there before both in me and in the blog. This has changed how expansive the blog has become topic wise and the discussions are amazing. Cold Mountain was a recent topic so I enjoyed reading your reaction to the film, as I will continue to cry every time I watch it.
