The Sound of Music
This is the best musical I've ever seen, and probably the only one I thoroughly enjoyed (as Mary Poppins didn't really do it for me). This 1965 hit is sweet, the songs are beautiful and for a movie that lengthy (roughly three hours) it really carries you along without ever seeming boring.
The actors were all great, the Mise-en-scène is quite beautiful and is in tune with the theme of the film and finally the story, wow! Its anti-nazi background, nuns, family values and romance are perfectly mixed into a beautiful family film that should be viewed at least once by everyone roaming on this planet!
Love it, hate it ... The Sound of Music is timeless.
