Day #81 - The English Patient

Movie #83

The English Patient
The Academys must really love this movie, nine wins? really?

But other than that, The English Patient was a really interesting experience, as the story is complex and powerful accompanied with fine performances from Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche, Kristin Scott Thomas, Willem Defoe and Naveen Andrews. From the late Anthony Minghella, who is making his second appearance on the project -- his first being Movie #5, did a swell job writing and directing this film that revolves around love, betrayal and loyalty; with much of it taking place in the desert before and during WWII.

Unfortunately this film's too long and I had a difficult time trying to understand how anyone could find it moving, as selling out your friends and nation at wartime for an extramarital affair doesn't do it for me. Other than this, it's a pretty good movie - definitely not great.
