Iron Man 3: The Re(al) - view

The Mandarin: Ladies, children, sheep... Some people call me a terrorist. I consider myself a teacher. Lesson number one: Heroes, there is no such thing.
There has been a lot of disappointments for me this year, movie-wise that is; the usual suspects - Gangster Squad, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and the ridiculously disappointing, A Good Day to Die Hard. If not for Robert Downey. Jr,'s charismatic awesomeness, Iron Man 3 would have also made the cut with these huge waste of time; but it didn't (and that's a good thing for a film that has now grossed nearly $800 million at the box office!)

Best Movies of 2012

I know it's a bit late posting this list, but all blame goes to the studios for releasing most of the best at the very end of the year, making it difficult for aficionados like myself to get my 'eyes' on them on time (seven were released between November & December). And these list comprises of nine movies because of a particular film I am yet to watch - Moonrise Kingdom. Upon watching it I am confident it would have a huge effect on the list.

BUT before diving into the list, here are the fallout five (five movies that were so close to making it on the list, it just goes to show how difficult it was to compile this list.)

5. Killing Them Softly

*Warning* Not all these movies are going to be awesome, still I want to see them all!

Gangster Squad (January 11)

The Avengers (Loki)

Loki: You were made to be ruled. In the end, it'll be every man for himself.

Tony Stark: When they come, and they WILL come, they'll come for you.
Loki: I have an army.
Tony Stark: We have a Hulk.
Loki: I thought the beast had wandered off...

The Avengers (Bruce Banner - the Hulk & Thor)

Bruce Banner: In case you needed to kill me, but you can't I know I've tried. I got low, I didn't see an end so I put a bullet in my mouth and the other guy spit it out.

Security Guard: Are you an alien?
Bruce Banner: What?
Security Guard: From outer space, an alien.
Bruce Banner: No.
Security Guard: Well then son, you've got a condition.

The Avengers (Captain America - Steve Rogers)

Tony Stark: He was an idiot!
Steve Rogers: He was doing his job!
Tony Stark: For taking Loki alone, he was out of his league!
Steve Rogers: Is this the first time you've lost a soldier?
Tony Stark: We are not soldiers! I am not marching in Fury's fight!
Steve Rogers: Neither am I! He's got the same blood on his hands as Loki. Right now we've got to put that aside and get this done.

Natasha Romanoff: [discussing attacking Loki] But he's a god!
Steve Rogers: Ma'am, there's only one God, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't look like that.

The Avengers - The Re(al) - view

Nick Fury: There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could...

A lot of super hero movies have come and gone since 2009's The Dark Knight, but unfortunately none have even come close till a super-dude named Whedon, Joss Whedon stepped up to direct a movie that brings four established super heroes (who each own their franchises), one bad-ass super sniper, a skilled spy, Nick Fury, Agent Phil Coulson as the super - suit! And Loki!!!

The action is overwhelming and super-awesome, but the interaction is genius as the screenplay brings the best out of all the characters' personalities, movies and then some. This was a movie that was aimed to be fun and it exceeded expectations.

I can hammer on the script, cinematography and special effects for the rest of this review but I'd rather concentrate on the characters as, in the words of Todd Jorgenson, The Avengers is the equivalent of a super hero all star game.

The Avengers (Tony Stark - Iron Man)

Day 3

Tony Stark: Let's do a headcount: Your brother, the demigod; a super-soldier, a living legend who actually lives up to the legend; a man with breathtaking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins; and you've managed to piss off every single one of us.
Tony Stark: Not a great plan.
Loki: That was the plan.
Tony Stark: [to Bruce Banner] You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret? Mellow jazz? Bongo drums? Huge bag of weed?

The Avengers (Nick Fury)

Nick Fury: [narrating] And there came a day, a day unlike any other... when Earth's mightiest heroes found themselves united against a common threat... to fight the foes no single superhero could withstand... on that day, The Avengers were born.

The Avengers Week

This week is all about the hottest movie on the planet (at the moment), and It's going to comprise of a Re(al) - view and several quotes (there are so many memorable ones - the screenplay is that good!) + pictures.

Cheers.

Steve Rogers: I wanna know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here.

Bruce Banner: I don't think we should be focusing on Loki. That guy's brain is a bag full
of cats. You can smell crazy on him.

Thor: I care how you speak. Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my
brother.

Natasha Romanoff: He killed eighty people in two days.

Thor: He's adopted.

Thank you, Joss.
